I have dandruff and hair loss how can I prevent it?

Dandruff is a medical condition known as seborrhea and causes loss of the skin on the scalp along with hair loss, in acute cases. Dandruff is a skin condition that can cause acute social embarrassment but is rarely dangerous. You can prevent dandruff by keeping your scalp and hair clean buy washing it regularly with mild shampoos. You should also eat a nutritious diet and not share hair accessories like towels and combs. In acute cases of dandruff, you can also develop hair loss.


In such cases, medicated shampoos are prescribed and the vitamin and protein quantity in your diet is increased. Shampoos containing salicylic acid are usually suggested for dandruff treatment. There are even cortisone creams that can be used to prevent dandruff. Cleanliness and a healthy diet is a best way to prevent hair loss due to dandruff. It is also important to be gentle with hair as dandruff and itching can weaken hair.

Food To Reduce Hair Fall

Dandruff and hair loss can be caused due to a variety of reasons.

To cure this scalp and hair problem it is very important to identify the root cause first. Hair loss can be due to many reasons like hormonal changes in the body, poor nutrition, certain diseases and medical treatments, medications, hair treatments, unhygienic scalp conditions or scalp infections (this includes dandruff too).

Dandruff a chronic scalp disorder can be caused mainly due to malassezia that is yeast like fat-eating fungus.

Dandruff can also be caused due to stress, oily scalp, use of many styling products which have chemicals, poor diet, and shampooing too often or less often. Dandruff and hair loss; both these conditions are not too serious or contagious but yes they can be often embarrassing and depressing at times. So it is very important to treat both the conditions on a serious note before it takes any serious form like baldness or scalp infections.

Try the following solutions for dandruff and hair loss -

  • Eat a nutritionally healthy well-balanced diet high in proteins, zinc, B-complex vitamins, and essential fatty acids to prevent hair fall and dandruff. Food sources of these nutrients include fish, dairy products, oysters, shell fish, flaxseeds, whole cereals, whole grains, whole pulses and sprouts.
  • Drink plenty of water to keep your skin and scalp well hydrated.
