Urticaria is a disease or ailment of the skin. The condition results in the formation of pale reddish swellings in clusters, on the skins surface. Once the swellings develop they gradually fade off only to re-surface on some other area of the body. A chemical known as histamine is what causes the red blotches. This particular chemical is released by the body when one comes into contact with any kind of an allergen. In fact one may develop Urticaria irrespective of their being allergic to any substance. Anybody could suffer from this ailment. Urticaria could develop as a result of excessive sweating, animal dander, excessive exposure to cold or heat, undue stress and insect bites. The eruptions could either be tiny or large and can appear on any given part of one’s body.

The condition should not be a cause for concern as it can be treated effectively with a few simple home remedies. Heat marshmallows and Echinacea roots together for about 5 minutes, after which, turn the heat off. Now add a few peppermint leaves, chamomile flowers, Ginger rhizome. The decoction has to be stirred well and then strained into a glass. This should be had once a day, it will help in preventing further outbreaks. Another very effective remedy would be to boil water and then add a few yarrow, chamomile, Calendula and elder flowers and Echinacea roots. The mixture has to be stirred well. Once the herbs have been strained out, add half a teaspoon of baking soda. The mixture has to then be applied onto the affected area and left for about 10 minutes. This will provide relief and reduce itching.

A mixture made from vinegar and rose water can also be used to reduce itching. Witch Hazel (cold) can also be applied onto the affected area in order to reduce symptoms and relieve itching. Milk of Magnesia if applied will also help in reducing irritation.

Mix together equal proportions of corn starch and baking soda. This mixture should then be added to warm bath water. This is also considered to be an effective treatment. Mash one over ripe papaya and then apply a generous layer on the skin. It will have a soothing effect and will aid the healing process. A person with this condition has to try and avoid coffee, tea, alcohol, meat and refined foods. Finally, a lot of vegetables and fresh fruits have to be consumed.
