The production of cheese is a subject of great interest and pride, particularly in areas of Europe where some cheeses are even associated with local areas and with local communities. The production of cheese has become a fine art in Europe and is an important export from countries like France and the Netherlands.

Cheese produced in this way is mass produced and homogenized. Mass produced homogenized cheese is found in various dishes and recipes. This type of cheese can be used for cooking and forms an integral part of the cuisine of many cultures, particularly European cultures. Even when it comes to cooking cheeses, one may use gourmet cheeses like mozzarella instead of the standard cooking cheese that one might otherwise use.
