General Motors Diet very famous for short term weight loss:

GM diet states that you should eat bananas and milk on day 3 or 4 but I don't eat either is their an alternative?

GM diet or general motors diet is a very famous short term weight loss diet. It has a specific time limit with specific instruction, which when followed ensures 7-8 pounds of weight loss in a week. Benefits of this diet include - eating as many meals as you like at any time of the day as per the instructions given, simple meals that are easy to prepare, low fat high complex carbohydrate diet and quick weight loss. The drawbacks of this diet include - it has to be followed according to the given instructions, it is not recommended as a long term maintenance diet and it lacks daily protein consumption. You must abstain from alcohol for all the seven days and drink at least 10-12 glasses of water to maintain adequate hydration in the body

Any fad diet is only effective when followed properly according to the given instructions.

If you don't prefer or like to eat bananas and milk then you can avoid them, but there is no substitute for them. However you need not starve on day 4 when you are suppose to have bananas and milk; if you want a fruitful result try to include them in your diet as much as possible.  Bananas are a rich source of potassium and are placed in this order that is on the forth day to replenish the potassium stores in your body that are lost in the past 2-3 days. Milk will provide proteins along with other vital nutrients.  However if you don't like either of them then you can have the third option in unlimited amounts whenever you feel hungry - that is the wonder soup. You can add all the vegetables you like except potatoes in this soup. For example you can use spinach, onions, cabbage, spring onions, tomatoes and celery. Tear and chop these to get medium pieces and boil them in water till done. You can have a clear soup like this or if you don't want to chew the vegetables you can blend this soup to get a smooth liquid. Other spices like salt, pepper, chilies, ginger, garlic and coriander can be added according to your choice to increase palatability.

A GM diet will work more effectively when it is combined with regular exercise for all the days. Follow this diet under supervision and guidance of a health care specialist or a registered dietician only to avoid any health complications.
