Fish contains a high amount of purines and hence is not recommended as part of your diet for gout. Due to the buildup of excess uric acid from purines, which is commonly found in seafood and red meat, symptoms of gout become even more enhanced. Each gout attack is like a wake-up call that reminds you of the kind of foods that you may be consuming. Get yourself on a good gout diet and you will observe that the pain, inflammation and discomfort associated with the disease will be much less. Consuming seafood can cause great damage to the joints especially if you are severely afflicted with gout. Limit the seafood potions to a minimum of two or three servings during a week and drink plenty of water during the day, in order to flush out accumulated uric acid from the body. Continue to drink 8 to10 glasses of water every day and you will notice relief in a few days.

Include more vegetables and fruits in your diet, and cut down the quantity of sugary foods, saturated fats and processed foods. Research indicates that vegetables that have a high content of purines do not actually increase the risk of gout. However if your doctor has recommended that you keep off from certain vegetables, it is best to do so as different individuals need different dietary modifications. Completely eliminate all kinds of red meat while strictly limiting the amounts of seafood in your diet, and meat foods that can greatly affect the course of the disease and its symptoms. To get your daily requirement of protein switch over to lean chicken and low fat dairy products. Chicken in an excellent source of protein without side-effects relating to gout. More importantly, those who consume at least two servings of low-fat dairy products show decreased gout attacks and much symptomatic relief.

Fish oil on the other hand, taken as a supplementation helps to reduce the tenderness and the pain associated with gout. Fish oil is rich in omega 3 fatty acids and these are important for building up the joints and relieving pain. Fish oil supplements do not contain purines and hence are safe to consume. Replace sea foods with fish oil supplementations to get your daily source of omega 3 fatty acids. Apart from avoiding foods that are high in purines, it is also important that you maintain a healthy body weight, as obesity or excess weight can result in increased production of uric acid in the body.
