There are three phases of the fat flush diet. The initial phase is a restrictive phase, wherein the calorie intake is restricted to 1200 calories per day.

The excessive bloating seen in individuals is reduced, thereby decreasing the water content. Some amount of fat loss is also seen.

Alcoholic beverages are avoided. Fats and oils margarine, sugar, dairy products, starchy vegetables, grains, cereals and bread are avoided. Very few spices and herbs are taken in the diet. The allowance of calories is increased to around 1200 to 1500 calories. The last phase is the maintenance phase. The allowance of calories is increased to 1500 calories or more. Certain starchy carbohydrates are allowed in a gradual manner. Some dairy or gluten free grains are also reintroduced.

Weight lifting, a form of strength training is performed twice a week.  About 20 to 40 minute of exercise session is done. Walking is also done in the initial stages. Eight hours of sleep is recommended. A healthy lifestyle is helpful in weight loss.
