Grains provide most of the complex carbohydrates & important nutrients like B-vitamins. Breads, cereals, pasta & rice make up most of this food group. Flour is made from grains so its products will also come under this group. But the processed products of flour have a high content of sugars & fats & are rich in calories. Instead of these you should have whole meal pasta & flour, whole grain cereals & brown rice.


These foods have high level of fibers in them which minimize the quantity of fats that the body absorbs thus reducing the consumption of calories. Potatoes contain large amounts of complex carbohydrates, so they can be included in your regular meals. Complex carbohydrates should comprise 60% of your meal.

Almost all fruits & vegetables provide fibers, minerals & essential vitamins like A. C & E which are antioxidants. These are instrumental in delaying aging by deactivating the free radicals which damage cells thereby reducing their lives. Fruits & vegetables also contain natural sugars which increase our energy levels. 3 to 4 servings each of fruits & vegetables everyday are good for weight loss. Dairy products like milk, yoghurt & cheese have high levels of proteins & calcium & are one of the best foods to eat for weight loss.
