What are the symptoms of stomach cancer and what are the diseases in our internal organs?

(October 10, 2011)

In the early stages of stomach cancer, you may not have any symptoms.  The visible symptoms of stomach cancer, as it grows, are usually very non specific and vague. These include nausea after eating, dyspepsia, and a feeling of being full even after consuming small quantities of food. As the cancer gets to the advanced stage, symptoms include vomiting after meals, pain in the abdomen (upper left), weight loss that is not planned, blood in the stools or vomit (manifested as tarry stools or “coffee grounds”), and weakness and fatigue. Some other symptoms of stomach cancer include heartburn, indigestion and difficulty in swallowing.

You need to know that most of the symptoms may not be due to stomach cancer but due to some other internal organs diseases. It could be diseases such as infections and ulcers that could be causing the same symptoms.

These symptoms could also be due to liver diseases such as cirrhosis or hepatitis. If you have these symptoms, it is best that you contact your health care provider so that he can make a proper diagnosis and accordingly treat the problem. He/she will make his/her diagnosis based on your personal health history. The doctor will also take your family health history into consideration. Certain lab and blood tests need to be conducted to diagnose the problem.
