Calories Burned In Hot Yoga

Exercising every day is very important, because it helps to improve your overall health in several ways. One of the main benefits associated with exercising is weight loss or maintaining a healthy weight. This is because most forms of physical activities burn calories and fat, thereby allowing you to shed any excess pounds. The calories burned exercising may vary based on the type of physical activity you engage in. Some of the most effective exercises for burning calories include cardio or aerobic exercises like walking, jogging, running, swimming, cycling, skipping or playing certain sports. Many people believe that the calories burned at a gym through anaerobic exercises like pushups, sit ups or abdominal crunches can also help them lose a lot of weight.

However, the number of calories burned through anaerobic exercises is relatively low. These exercises are great for toning up the muscles; however, they are not very effective for burning calories or losing weight. The number of calories burned in yoga can actually be higher, as compared to most anaerobic exercises. There are several forms of yoga that you can practice, in case you are trying to lose weight. However, the calories burnt in hot yoga, vinyasa yoga and power yoga are relatively higher, which is why they are the most highly recommended yoga disciplines for weight loss purposes.

Bikram Or Hot Yoga

Bikram yoga or hot yoga is one of the most popular forms of yoga, especially in the western world. What separates this form of yoga from the others is the fact that it needs to be practiced in an environment that has been heated to a temperature of 105 degrees Fahrenheit. Moreover, there are 26 different poses that need to be performed in a fixed sequence and it normally takes around 90 minutes to complete the entire sequence. These exercises are quite strenuous and cause you to burn a lot of calories. Moreover, when you work out in a heated environment, your body burns additional calories. This is probably why the number of calories burned in hot yoga is significantly higher, as compared to many other forms of yoga.

On average, the hot yoga calories burnt in 60 minutes is approximately 650 or so. However, the sequence usually takes much longer than an hour to complete. On average, it will take you around an hour and a half to complete the entire hot yoga sequence of 26 poses. Therefore the hot yoga calories burned in 90 minutes usually goes up to 1000 calories or so. This estimate of hot yoga calories lost is for an average person who weighs around 150 pounds. However, the hot yoga calories burned per hour or per session in your case may be higher or lower, depending upon your body weight. Moreover, there are different variations in hot yoga too, such as moksha yoga. Studies indicate that the moksha hot yoga calories burnt by an average person could also go as high as 1000.

Power Yoga

Power yoga is a fairly vigorous form of yoga that is extremely popular in the west, especially with those who are young, fit, energetic, and would like to enjoy the various benefits of yoga, without meditating or chanting. Power yoga is one of the best forms of cardiovascular activities that you can add to your workout routine. Swimming, which is one of the best ways to lose weight, exercises only 15% to 20% of your body. However, you exercise around 100% of your body, during a single session of power yoga. The number of calories burned in a power yoga session that lasts for an hour is around 475 calories or so. However, power yoga is a highly strenuous form of yoga which is only fit for those who are athletically inclined and can engage in heavy exercises for a period of 90 minutes or so, without a break. This yoga discipline not only helps you lose weight; it is also very effective for toning up.

Hot Power Yoga

Hot power yoga is a fusion between hot yoga and power yoga, which is one of the modern yoga disciplines. This style is appropriate for people of all ages and it can also help you manage aches and pains. Hot power yoga is performed in an environment that has been heated to a temperature of around 85 degrees or so. The calories burnt during hot power yoga are much higher than regular yoga styles, though some of the other benefits associated with this style include self-discovery, challenging the mind, opening the heart and transformation of the body.

Though there are several health benefits that have been associated with yoga, it is absolutely essential for you to consult a doctor, before taking up this practice. Moreover, yoga can have an adverse effect on your body, in case it is performed incorrectly. Therefore, it is absolutely essential to learn yoga from a professional guru. You also need to practice yoga under the guidance of one, at least until you attain some level of mastery.
